DirecTV have announced they will begin supplying their own DVR in the middle of 2005, competing directly with TiVo-based DVRs also supplied by DirecTV.

The new device will be a step-up from the current TiVo offering with a 90 minute live TV buffer, a built in TV 'bookmarking' system and other interface refinements. Standard features include dual tuners, but now support for HD, although reports say that the unit has component video output.

TiVo shares fell sharply on the news of the DirecTV DVR.
