Two New DVD Recorders and Stand-Alone Media Gateway Enable Sharing of Digital Content Throughout the Home

BenQ has introduced its new line of DVD recorders and an accompanying stand-alone media gateway that enable the sharing of digital content throughout the home. The two DVD recorders (models JH300 and DE350) possess DVD+RW/+R recording capabilities and up to 15X high-speed dubbing from a PC’s hard disk drive to DVD.

The WM1100T stand-alone media gateway adds wireless LAN (local area network) connectivity to the JH300 and DE350 to transmit content from one location to another for viewing. For example, if users are viewing a digitally recorded program in the living room and want to move to the bedroom, they can merely send the show to another DVD recorder in the bedroom via a wireless Ethernet network connection in the media gateway.

The WM1100T supports the full range of common wireless communications standards, including IEEE 802.11a/b/g. The unit can be controlled with a universal infrared (IR) remote control that is included with the product.

The DE350 comes in 160GB, 250GB and 400GB hard disk drive (HDD) variations that provide approximately 204, 318 and 510 hours of recording, respectively. It also comes equipped with a convenient Time-Shifting function that allows users the flexibility to pause and temporarily record television programs on its HDD to watch later.

Both the DE350 and JH300 provide an i.LINK Interface for connecting DV/Digital 8 camcorders directly to the DVD recorder. The units also offer progressive scanning, also known as 480p, which generates a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional interlaced picture to create a noticeably sharper image. The 480p image offers higher picture resolution and eliminates virtually all motion artifacts.
