Lite-On, Sampo and BenQ are in danger of slipping into a price war as they cut the RRP of their new DVD/HDD recorders.
Lite-On IT lowered the Taiwanese retail price for the LWV-5045, with its 160GB hard drive, to US$627 in response to BenQ releasing a similarly specced model (DE305S) for $600 and then Sampo announcing the 80GB DV-RH680 for $535.
Sony recently warned that its profits had been hit by unprecendented price falls for DVD recorders and competitive pricing from budget makes.
There is no indication that these price cuts will apply to other markets as yet,
