January 27th 2004 | UK JVC launches XV-DDV1 HDD Recorder & DVD Player
The HDD recorder features a large 80GB storage capacity to record up to 80 hours of digital video. The DVD player plays a wide variety of formats - DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW, Super VCD, VCD, CD-DA, CD-R, CD-RW, plus MP3 and JPEG files (CD-R/CD-RW), as well as ordinary CD. Recording to a hard disc gives you a new way to enjoy digital home entertainment, allowing you to record, store and playback various types of content - movies, TV programmes and music - with a single unit. Adding to the convenience, the stored data can be easily removed or edited, so you can retain only favourite programmes or scenes in the hard disc. The large-capacity 80GB HDD of the XV-DDV1 features digital video recording in four modes - SP, LP, EP or SEP - that allow 20, 28, 56 and 80 hours of recording, respectively. Because of the long-hour recording capability, the XV-DDV1 is ideal for time-shift viewing: record a programme now and view it later. Moreover, using the Timer Programme finction, you can record up to 16 programmes maximum one year ahead, so you don't have to miss your favourite programme even during a long absence - a world cruise, for instance. The XV-DDV1 comes with Live Memory and simultaneous recording/playback: the latter is one of the most distinctive merits of a hybrid unit with the DVD player, allowing you to enjoy movies while recording TV programmes on HDD at the same time. The Navigation system simplifies recording and playback with on-screen menus: up to 100 titles of the recorded programmes or thumbnail pictures of the recorded contents are displayed, so you can choose and play whichever you like at a touch of a button. The XV-DDV1 features a 10-bit/54MHz video D/A converter that oversamples the video signal to ensure truer-to-the-original images with the minimum loss. The DVD player incorporates the VFP (Video Fine Processor), a JVC exclusive that allows flexible picture control in the digital domain for the highest quality. You can adjust seven parameters - brightness, contrast, etc. - according to your preferences and access four preset positions (two factory and two manual settings). The 192kHz/24-bit Audio D/A Converter allows the DVD player to extract a superior sound with extended frequency response and fine resolution from super-fidelity DVDs. The DVD player features Express Play Start that displays the picture just under four seconds after you load a DVD disc (in case of a single-layer disc). This is enabled by the use of a new drive mechanism and algorithms for identifying the media and optimising parameters. The XV-DDV1 plays back JPEG files recorded on CD-R/CD-RW. By connecting the unit to your living-room TV, you can enjoy photos enlarged on the screen. Moreover, the unit is provided with two 21-pin SCART terminals, letting you connect a TV, a VCR and a STB (Set-top Box for a satellite tuner, cable systems, etc.) with one-touch simplicity. Other convenient functions include Quick Skip Forward of the hard disc, ZOOM play and Random play of the DVD player, and Repeat play and Programme play. The RESUME function of the DVD player lets you pick up where you left off on the 30 most recently viewed DVDs. The unit also allows NTSC playback on PAL TV. |
