LSI Logic will announce on Monday that Philips Electronics is utilizing LSI Logic DoMiNo DVD recorder system processors for its line of recorders, including the single-drive DVD+RW recorder and VCR/DVD+RW recorder combo.

Leveraging the flexibility, full-feature set and single-chip integration of the LSI Logic DoMiNo family, Philips is delivering high-quality DVD recorder products to consumers at affordable price points.

"The DMN-8602 is an optimal solution for meeting the cost, performance and quality requirements of the rapidly growing DVD recorder market," said Umesh Padval, executive vice president for LSI Logic's Consumer Products. "Philips Electronics is a key customer for LSI Logic, as they are both a technology and market leader in the DVD recorder market, and we are pleased that they are now shipping DoMiNo-based products."

Leveraging the DoMiNo products, Philips was able to design both single-drive and combination VCR/DVD recorder products, maximizing software reuse. The VCR/DVD combination recorder brings together the benefits of digital recording technology with archiving from tape to DVD, in one product. The LSI Logic Direct Digital DubTM technology simplifies this process by enabling the transfer of content from a camcorder with one-touch via the DVD recorder remote control.

LSI Logic's line of DoMiNo DVD recorder processors consists of the industry's first single-chip DVD recorder solutions. The high level of integration reduces design complexity and provides system designers with a considerable savings on the overall bill of materials. Additional advantages include LSI Logic's proprietary pre- and post-processing technologies, TrueViewTM Pro and TrueScanTM Pro. These motion compensation-based technologies provide advanced progressive scan output and impressive noise handling on analog inputs.
