LSI Logic has announced that its DoMiNo 8602 (DMN-8602) DVD recorder system processor is enabling LG Electronics' newest line of combination VCR/DVD recorder products, including the LG Electronics LRY-517 and the Zenith ZRY-316.

Both models are part of a Super-Multi(TM) format line of DVD recorders launching in the U.S. that support all recording formats including DVD+RW/+R, DVD-RW/-R and DVD-RAM. By supporting DVD-RAM, the combination recorder enables the powerful feature of time-shifting, allowing consumers to pause, rewind and fast-forward live television.

"The flexibility of the DMN-8602 architecture allowed us to develop a combination VCR/DVD recorder that relieves consumers from the concern of format compatibility," said Mr. Tae Ki Shin, director of video R&D, Digital Media Company of LG Electronics. "Not only does the LSI Logic DMN-8602 support the popular DVD recording formats, but it also significantly reduces system- level costs and design complexity with its high level of integration."

A worldwide leader in consumer electronics, Korea-based LG Electronics selected the DMN-8602 for its ability to provide the highest-quality digital video and audio in a cost-effective, single-chip design, enabling a wide variety of technologies and features. LSI Logic's Direct Digital Dub(TM) technology is included in the DMN-8602 and simplifies the transfer of personal digital content from a digital camcorder to a DVD disc over FireWire, using only the DVD recorder remote. The DMN-8602 also incorporates proprietary motion compensation-based pre- and post-processing technologies that provide advanced progressive scan output and impressive noise reduction on analog inputs, generating superior image quality -- especially for VHS content.

Additional features of the LRY-517 and ZRY-316 enabled by LSI Logic's DMN- 8602 DVD recorder system processor include:

* Support of DivX® video compression format which enables video playback
of up to 12 hours on a single DVD disc;
* Support of DVD+R DL (double-layer) media which records up to 8.5GB of
data on a single disc; and
* Support for an integrated 8-in-2 media reader which accepts a wide range
of memory cards, including CompactFlash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO,
MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, xD-Picture Card and SmartMedia, making
it easy for consumers to display photos on their TVs.
