Gamesindustry.biz is speculating that the PlayStation 3 may be equipped with a 2 or even 4x Blu-Ray drive at launch.

The original spec for the PS3 included a 1x drive, but by the time its launch comes around in early 2006 the entry level drives may have exceeded that speed.

All of this is unconfirmed as Sony have yet to reveal the final spec.
