Hitachi is to launch a one terabyte hard disc recorder in Japan.

The new recorder is part of a high-end range that Hitachi hopes will boost it into the big time in the DVD/HDD recorder league. The other recorders in the range will have 160 GB, 250GB and 500 GB capacities. The 1 TB capacity is acheived by combining two 500GB discs.

There are no immediate plans to launch the range overseas.
