For the fourth consecutive year in the CD category and second consecutive year in DVDs, Memorex led its competitors in all digital media, in both volume and sales, in a highly competitive industry, according to NPD Intelect(R), a leader in market intelligence. NPD, an independent market analysis firm, tracks point-of-sale information, by volume and dollar sales, to determine how well products are selling in the nation's top 25 retailers.Data from NPD Intelect clearly demonstrates Memorex's position as the industry leader of all formats of CD and DVD discs in the United States. Memorex secured a 30 percent share of the CD market, based on dollar sales -- nearly three times that of the number two brand; and a 27 percent share of the DVD market, based on dollar sales -- over 50 percent more than the number two brand. "At Memorex, we offer optical media in all formats and in different styles and themes that make CD and DVD recording unique, personal and fun," said Allen H. Gharapetian, vice president of marketing and product development. "By listening to our customers and creating products that complement theirindividual lifestyles, we've been able to cement Memorex's position in the consumer's mind." "Memorex's exceptional market share numbers show that we are truly meeting the recording needs of our customers in the U.S. market," said Brad Yeager, senior product marketing manager for digital media. "As the year progresses, Memorex plans to introduce new optical media products, updated packaging and alternative pack sizes to continue to energize CD and DVD recording for the consumer."
