April 5th 2006 Samsung Delays Blu-Ray Roll Out
The latest embarassment is Samsung's who have postponed their Blu-Ray player launch from May 23 to June 25 in the USA. The official reason is that Samsung want more time to test the player with prerecorded discs such as the eight that Sony is planning for the original launch date, with an additional six titles due on June 13. They aren't just resting on their laurels during this period though as the players will now launch with a few extra features - support for Mini-SD and Memory Stick Pro Duo. "We still anticipate that the Samsung BD-P1000 will be the first Blu-Ray player to launch at a national level in the United States" said Samsung, which sounds to us like a fairly cagey statement, allowing for the possibility that someone might get there first in a geographically limited way. Samsung's BD-P1000 model is expected to be sold at a $999 |
