Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited today introduced the world's first dual RW home DVD recorder, the [RDR-GX7], which is compatible with the popular DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW discs.

Its format flexibility gives users a wider selection of recording and viewing choices. In addition, its advanced camcorder control capabilities offer a range of dubbing and editing features that make the archiving of personal home movies on DVD simple and easy.

The [RDR-GX7] is the only home DVD recorder currently on the market that supports the recording formats of DVD-RW, DVD+RW and DVD-R and allows the reproduction of vivid images from a wide array of video sources. By incorporating several picture enhancement technologies to create high quality DVD recordings, it is especially effective when transferring images from video sources such as VHS or 8 mm camcorders. It can play back DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs. This unique flexibility gives users more choice of media and greater compatibility among home entertainment hardware.

The playback capability of the DVD recorder is comparable with Sony's high-end DVD players such as the [DVP-S9000ES]. The versatile DVD recorder enables users to enjoy stunning home theatre effects and their personal DVD videos by offering a wide variety of high performance capabilities. These features can optimize picture quality and effectively remove noise such as a 12bit/108MHz video D/A converter with Noise Shaped Video technology, Motion Adaptive Field Noise Reduction, Pre-Frame Noise Reduction and Pre-Video Equalizer technologies. Variable bit-rate MPEG encoding ensures maximum efficiency and recording time for all types of DVD media.

Its sophisticated camcorder control capabilities enable users to control a range of dubbing and editing functions when a Digital Handycam or Digital8 camcorder is connected to the [RDR-GX7] via the i.LINK interface. One of the easy-to-use features, The One Touch Dubbing, allows for easy tape to disc conversion by pressing one button. Users can delete unwanted scenes or make a compilation of their favourite scenes with the flexible editing functions such as Program Edit and Advanced Program Edit.

Despite its advanced functionality, the [RDR-GX7] provides a user-friendly, intelligent on-screen Graphic User Interface (GUI). With this easy-to-use interface, users can create personal DVD titles with thumbnail pictures and operate the recorder through the sophisticated remote commander. It is effortless to retrieve the video content without the need for cueing or rewinding. The [RDR-GX7] is encased in a brushed aluminium front panel and features a stylish design, which blends with a wide variety of Sony digital home theatre products.
