Aspire Digital brings its first DVD recorder, the AD-8091, to the consumer electronics market at a low MSRP of just $249.00, giving consumers an affordable option that is loaded with a full complement of quality features.

The AD-8091 is the first product to make its debut from Aspire Digital's new dedicated facility in Huizhou, China. The facility is expected to produce over 800,000 DVD recorders for the worldwide market in its first year of operation.

"Aspire Digital has reached an agreement with the 3C Consortium to license 3C DVD recording technologies," says Dan Tseng, managing partner for Aspire Digital. "This will apply to the current product as well as to future products yet to be introduced."

The AD-8091 is designed to record onto blank DVD+R or DVD+RW discs, both of which are compatible with most DVD players sold today. Five recording modes (HQ, SP, LP, EP, EP+) are provided to let the user maximize disk space or select high-quality recording.

Convenient Recording From TVs and Camcorders

Television programming can be captured via the real-time recording function. "Continue Recording" and "Auto-Search Free Space" functions provide convenience while recording episodic or multiple title programming.

The unit delivers superior-quality playback from virtually all audio or video disc formats, including DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, CD+G, JPEG, MP3 and Kodak Picture CD. Progressive Scan, Dolby 5.1 audio output, Dolby Digital AC-3 decoder and DTS digital audio output combine to provide expansive sound and crisp images.

The unit includes 4:3/16:9 display conversion, as well as parental lock settings. Both NTSC and PAL formatting are provided for worldwide compatibility. Optical and coaxial outputs are provided for higher-speed digital processing. Composite video and analog stereo outputs are also included.

For consumers who want the added capability of recording directly from digital camcorder tapes and digital cameras, Aspire Digital's model AD-8092 includes all the features available in the AD-8091 plus an IEEE 1394 (firewire) connection for fast download times. The AD-8092 will be available at an MSRP of $299.00.

Users new to DVD recording should note that Aspire Digital's products respect copy-protection present on most commercial DVDs.
