October 26th 2006 Confusion Over Future of Lite-On Brand
A story published earlier today on Hexus suggested that falling profits, caused partly by high returns of DVD recorders in the USA, would force Lite-On to concentrate on its optical drive business. Marketing Supervisor for Lite-On in Europe, Jelmer Veldman, initially confirmed the rumour, but did say that the brand would still be available in the UK beyond Christmas. He later contacted Hexus to reiterate that the UK was a very strong market for Lite-On and that it currently had no plans to withdraw, even though it would be focussing on OEM production. Own-brand models only account for 25% of Lite-On's set-top recorder sales, so the move is not a massive commercial decision at this stage. |
