The system is based around a software algorithm of Philips' own devising. "The set-up is really easy," said Jeroen Cappendijk, business development manager of Philips' Personal TV Channel product. "You just create a channel and select a program. The system monitors your zapping habits and automatically refines your channel." The system not only records TV but also scans online video services such as YouTube for related content. Households with more than one user need not worry that they will be getting each others' preferences as the system can learn from each individual and serve up a unique station. Philips plans to make the software available for free as a download compatible with Vista Media Center and then to license it to the makers of set top boxes later in the year. |
