LSI Logic Corporation today announced that its second-generation DiMeNsion(TM) DVD recorder system processor, DMN-8602, is designed into Ellion Digital Inc.'s next-generation line of recorder products.

Ellion selected the DiMeNsion processor for its ability to provide the highest-quality digital video and innovative features, such as integrated USB and DV support, in a cost-effective, single-chip design.
"We're pleased to be working with LSI Logic to meet the needs of the growing DVD recorder market," said Mr. Byeong Whan Kim, director of R&D, of Ellion Digital Inc. "The DMN-8602 provides us with unique features that will further drive consumer adoption of these products."

With USB and FireWireŽ support, Ellion's new models allow consumers to have flexibility in connecting different portable multimedia devices to the DVD recorder, such as digital camcorders, cameras, or USB Flash memory card readers. JPEGs and other audio/video files can be transferred over USB or FireWire to the DVD recorder for playback or recording. This allows consumers to share photos or personal content in the living room without having to burn onto a CD/DVD first. The DVD recorder remote can be used for controlling the camcorder (through FireWire) or playback of JPEG files (through USB) for easy viewing and navigation.

The DMN-8602 leverages the industry-leading integration of the DiMeNsion 8600 (DMN-8600), the industry's first single-chip DVD recorder solution. The DMN-8602 integrates an NTSC/PAL TV encoder and a USB controller, and requires only a single unified memory subsystem. The integration of these functions into a single chip reduces design complexity and provides system designers with a considerable savings on the overall bill of materials.
