I was impressed by how easy this recorder was to use. It has great features such as being able to watch a RAM disc from the beginning while recording. The picture and sound quality are excellent. I cannot tell the difference between live satellite broadcasts and recordings made in the LP mode. The problem is that after about 9 months it would no longer read RAM discs and after about 15 months it no longer reads anything except VCD discs. My local Panasonic repair center only does warranty repairs. I emailed Panasonic to find out if this unit is repairable but received no response as yet. I may be the owner of an expensive digital clock. On the plus side it still remembers the time and date if unplugged for over 2 weeks! I bought a Lite-On LVW-2006 to replace and took it back because it was difficult to use, had fewer features, and much poorer picture quality. I then bought a Panasonic DMR ES20 and took it back because they had disabled some features and it was having a lot or problems reading discs that it had just recorded. The bottom line is that if you decide to buy a Panasonic make sure you get at least a 3 year extended service plan.
